The Blessed Mother Box

This clay box was one of the first Gypsy boxes where the handle on the lid was the main focus.  The figure of Mary is gestural - It has more flow than detail.  It suggests the folds in the material of her gown, Her outstretched arms and compassionate countenance.
The details in the carvings represent unending love in the white line that continuously connects and encircles the hearts.  The roses are a symbol of Mary and represent unconditional love.

I loved making everyone of the Gypsy Boxes.  This one is in a private collection.
